Holding Out For Dawn

When a night bears down heavy on me
With the tragedies and mis-steps of the day
I exhale a sigh and close my eyes
Holding on tight til tomorrow.

Long before the sun comes up
The first light seeps into my room
Whispering good morning
And gently coaxing my eyelids open
To show me what it has to offer.

The color fills my senses with pleasure
And washes away the dark from the night
The sun pushes up from the horizon
Dawning new hope for my day.
