Smile

Stingy smile
Stretched thin,
barely discernible as such
without a good deal
of imagination.

It replaced,
without warning,
the broad gaping laugh
that was filled with teeth,
and the back of your throat.

Do you remember it?
I do.

It was the one that
spread wide
covering your face
with light,
readily, easily visible
when I first met you.

I’ve seen those stingy smiles, and can relate to your poem completely.

It totally makes me smile…the real kind…when you read my poems. 🙂
